Charles Flint has been an art and antiques dealer for over forty years. He is also a lecturer, writer, and researcher of the arts and local history, an appraiser, arbitrator and broker on the national scene.
Appraisals and authentications performed for the following museums: Norman Rockwell Museum; Berkshire Museum; Arrowhead (Berkshire Historical Society); Berkshire Museum; Berkshire Athenaeum; Clark Institute of Art Conservatory; Edith Wharton Restoration (The Mount); Bidwell House Museum; Hancock Shaker Village; Mt. Lebanon Shaker Village, NY., and many other historical societies and libraries. He has performed appraisals for important private collectors, as well as for insurance companies, banks, real estate agents and attorneys representing estates. He was guest curator of the Nathanial Hawthorne Exposition at the Welles Gallery in Lenox.
One phase of Charles' work has been with insurance companies and adjusters, attorneys, and courts in an investigative capacity
on both national and international levels to settle claims regarding antiques, collectibles and fine art collections.
Charles' special expertise lies in fine arts, early American furniture and accessories,
early blown and molded glass, bottles, stoneware, polychrome folk art, New England architecture,
and the Shakers themselves. For three years he was director of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Village
Museum where he published a book on the subject of Shaker furniture. He was former president of the
Lenox Historical Society and now serves on its board.
His personal interests include early history of Berkshire County, (especially the history of early glass and iron making industries), archaeology, anthropology, geology, architecture, early industries of the Berkshires, writing, collecting items from the rich past of the Berkshires, and volunteer work throughout Berkshire County and New York State.
Charles has many contacts throughout the country in the fields of art and antiques.
He has a collection of Berkshire County history books and early maps, and uses
international online services for up-to-date auction prices.
He is a member of the New England Appraisers Association.
